Molly remained close to both of her parents and their families. She has an older sister Jenna and a half-sister Mia, on her father’s side. Molly’s mother, Jody Yeh, kept her maiden name of Shinbrod following the divorce.

Molly attended Glenbrook South High School and the Midwest Young Artists Conservatory. She played percussion in high school and won several awards for her chamber music performances. She moved to New York City to pursue her musical dreams at the Juilliard School, where she fell in love with Nick Hagen, a fellow percussionist.

Early Music Career:

The reality star kicked off her professional life as a musician. During her school years, Molly was part of two percussion groups, The Rattan Trio and Beat 3. She went on to win the junior division of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition two times in 2004 and 2005.

Cooking and Authorship:

Molly started her blog in 2009, when she was a student at Juilliard in New York City. She wanted to document her adventures in the city and share her love of food and music. Molly began her television journey in a cooking series on the food network entitled: Girl Meets Farm. The series debuted on June 24, 2018, and brought Molly recognition in the food world. The show shares her recipes and stories from her life on a sugar beet farm in North Dakota. The show features dishes that combine her Jewish and Chinese heritage, her Midwestern surroundings, and her love of sprinkles and cake. The show debuted in 2018 and has 12 seasons so far.

Meeting and Marriage to her husband:

Molly Yeh met her future husband Nick Hagen, a fellow musician while studying at Julliard. They fell in love and started dating, bonding over their shared interests and backgrounds. Molly often visited Nick’s family farm which is located a little outside of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, across the border in North Dakota. There she learned to appreciate the beauty and simplicity of rural life. She also discovered new ingredients and recipes that inspired her cooking and blogging.

After graduating from Juilliard, Molly decided to follow her heart. She married Nick Hagen, a fifth-generation farmer, in 2014. The wedding was held on December 27 at the old shop, the oldest building on their farm in Minnesota. Molly’s sister Mia was the flower girl who sprinkled rosemary. Since they have been happily married and given birth to two children. Their eldest  Bernadette Rosemary Yeh Hagen (Bernie) was born in March 2019 followed by Ira Dorothy Yeh Hagen (Ira) born in February 2022. The family of four lives on Nick’s inherited family farm.

As of 2023, Moly and Nick have been married for over 8 years and they seem to have a happy and loving relationship, sharing their passion for food, farming, and family.
