In a Treasure Vault in Hogwarts Legacy, you will find a chess board. In this chess puzzle, you have to checkmate your opponent with one move. Find out how to do this in this guide.

Where to Find the Chess Puzzle?

The Chess Puzzle can be found in a Treasure Vault in the Poidsear Coast region. The Poidsear coast is in the south of the world map, where you also start the quest surrounding Henrietta’s map.

This treasure vault is a standalone puzzle in Hogwarts Legacy that has no quest or other story elements leading to it.

To find the Chess Puzzle, travel to Flea Flame Phoenix Mountain Cave and then fly a little to the east. The following screenshot shows a map of the location of the Treasure Vault:

At the entrance, use Depulso to push the bars aside. Then you follow the cave into the mountain. At the end of the cave, the chessboard is waiting for you.

Start the Chess Puzzle

Use Revelio if you arrive at the chessboard. In the far left corner of the room is an item that is now outlined in white. Cast the Transform spell on this item. It turns into a chess piece.

Win the Chess Puzzle

The transformed object became the chess piece “Queen”. You must now set up this chess piece with Wingardium Leviosa in such a way that the opposing king is checkmated. If you haven’t unlocked Wingardium Leviosa yet, you must complete Professor Garlick’s task 1 or try to Accio the chess piece.

The correct square for your queen is the square directly in front of your opponent’s king. On this square, your queen is protected by your own king, and your opponent is checkmated:

After that, your opponent’s king falls over and you win the game. A chest will now appear for you to loot.
