Evicted Big Brother housemate Sree Dasari was hospitalised last week after slashing his wrists in his student halls.

The Indian student, 25, was taken to hospital by paramedics in the early hours of Friday morning after his 'cry for help' at his room at the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield.

Sree hurt himself after reportedly becoming upset while watching the live Big Brother feed on Channel 4, according to The Sun.

After being treated in hospital, Sree was discharged later on Friday and appeared on Big Brother's Big Mouth on Friday night.

A Channel 4 spokesman said: 'Housemates welfare is of paramount importance. There is a well-established and extensive after-care system in place for all housemates.

Sree is currently recovering at home at the University of Hertfordshire, where he studying for a masters degree in International Business and has recently been voted president of the student union.

A University of Hertfordshire spokesperson said: 'We are aware of the incident that took place last Thursday evening.

'We are offering ongoing support to Sree as part of our usual student support procedures.'

On the night of the incident, Sree's former love interest Noirin Kelly was filmed kissing fellow housemate Siavash Sabbaghpour.

Sree was evicted from the Big Brother house to a chorus of boos on July 3 after receiving 85 per cent of the vote after going up against Freddie 'Halfwit' Fisher.

During his month on the show, he clasher with teenager Cairon Austin-Hill and window fitter Marcus Akin.

Window fitter Marcus, 35, was given a formal warning by Big Brother after mocking Sree's Indian accent.

Nearly 300 viewers complained about the argument to watchdog Ofcom.

A spokesman at the time said: 'Big Brother intervened and took immediate and appropriate action relating to the argument between Sree and Marcus.

'Marcus received a formal warning following his use of threatening language during the argument.

'Threatening language and behaviour is not acceptable in the house. Big Brother monitors the welfare, language and behaviour of housemates at all times and will continue to monitor this situation.'

Sree's troubles are sure to add to the debate of how responsible reality TV chiefs should be for contestants after they leave.
