Marilyn Manson is an American rock singer, songwriter, actor, and performer. He’s known for his bold outfits and controversial on-stage antics. His stage name was formed by combining the names of actress Marilyn Monroe and cult leader Charles Manson. He released albums like Antichrist Superstar (1996) and Mechanical Animals (1998). Manson was born Brian Hugh Warner on January 5, 1969, in Canton, Ohio. His parents Barbara Warner Wyer and Hugh Angus Warner died in 2014 and 2017 respectively. He’s an only child. Manson attended Heritage Christian School followed by GlenOak High School. He pursued journalism and theater at Broward Community College in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

CAREER
Manson began his career as a music journalist. He wrote articles for the lifestyle magazine ’25th Parallel’ which is based in South Florida. During his tenure, he interviewed musicians like My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, and Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. Manson and guitarist Scott Putesky (Daisy Berkowitz) formed the band ‘Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids’ in 1989. The band later dropped the “Spooky Kids” from its name. They signed a recording contract with Trent Reznor’s label in 1993. Aside from Manson, the band’s current members include Twiggy, Paul Wiley, Gil Sharone, and Tyler Bates.

Manson’s debut album, Portrait of an American Family, was released in July 1994 by Nothing and Interscope Records. It produced three singles “Lunchbox”, “Dope Hat” and “Get Your Gunn”. The EP, Smells Like Children, was released in 1995. It sold 1.3 million copies and was certified Platinum by the RIAA. The band’s second album, Antichrist Superstar, was released in 1996. It peaked at #3 on the Billboard 200 and #2 on the Canadian Albums Chart. The album sold more than 7 million copies worldwide. It spawned the singles “The Beautiful People”, “Tourniquet”, “Antichrist Superstar” and “Man That You Fear”. A second EP, Remix & Repent, was released in 1997. Manson’s other albums include Mechanical Animals (1998), The Golden Age of Grotesque (2003), The High End of Low (2009), and Heaven Upside Down (2017). He won an MTV Video Music Award in 1999, and a Kerrang lifetime achievement award in 2015. He has been nominated for 4 Grammy Awards.

Manson made his film debut in David Lynch’s Lost Highway (1997). He was cast as “Christina Superstar” opposite Macaulay Culkin in Party Monster (2003). His film credits include Jawbreaker (1999) with Rose McGowan, and The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things (2004) with Asia Argento. He made guest appearances on television shows like Californication, Eastbound & Down, Salem, and Sons of Anarchy. Manson’s autobiography ‘The Long Hard Road Out of Hell’ was published in February 1998. It was co-written with Neil Strauss of Rolling Stone magazine. His second book ‘Holy Wood’ went unpublished. It was written between 1999 and 2000.
